NV PLOYEZ-JACQUEMART "EXTRA QUALITY" BRUT CHAMPAGNE
NV PLOYEZ-JACQUEMART EXTRA BRUT CHAMPAGNE, FRANCE. 20% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Meunier.
*TOP 100 WINE SPECTATOR ~ 2020*
John Gilman, View From the Cellar: "...one of the best-kept secrets in the realm of world class bubbly. The wines have never varied from their classic, complex and beautifully balanced style that emphasizes stunning purity of fruit, superb minerality, gentle leesy tones, very refined mousse and simply stunning complexity.”
The Extra Quality Brut, which is the flagship champagne of Ployez-Jacquemart, is a blend of premier and grand crus with a majority of Pinot Noir and Meunier (usually 60% of black grapes from Mailly and Ludes, and 40% of white grapes from Bisseuil, Cuis, Ludes, Puisieulx, Taissy, Grauve or Vertus). The black grapes provide it with a greater richness, complexity and roundness. Aged for a minimum of 3 years before release. Based on the 2013 vintage. All fruit comes from 1er Cru and Grand Cru vineyards in the Montagne de Reims and Cote des Blancs.
As for the entire range, they only use pure cuvees (first presses) and the composition of the blend only rarely uses reserve wines when the harvest does not meet our vintage standards. All these characteristics explain a very good balance, a great freshness of our wines, and very distinct nose and palate. A low dosage of sugar (approximately 5 gr/L only) also gives greater expression to all the flavors.
About: Ployez-Jacquemart is a family champagne house, founded in 1930 by the husband and wife team of Marcel Ployez and Yvonne Jacquemart. The soul of the house, characterized by a continual search for excellence, is now represented by Laurence, third generation of the family, who succeeds her parents Gerard and Claude Ployez. Perpetuating the founding values of the house: Passion, Tradition and Dedication, she has committed herself to make the most of each harvest and produce great prestige wines.
Ployez-Jacquemart works their own predominantly Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier vineyards in the Premier and Grands Crus villages of Ludes and Mailly Champagne. Tremendous care is taken whilst working these vines by hand ; if necessary, they will even harvest “unripe” grapes to ensure the overall quality of the harvest. Long standing relationships with other wine growers, primarily in the Grands Crus Chardonnay villages helps them improve their “assemblage” and ensure consistency year on year. (Producer)
