2018 TABLAS CREEK PASO ROBLES VERMENTINO
2018 TABLAS CREEK PASO ROBLES VERMENTINO, CALIFORNIA. 100% Vermentino.
91 points Vinous Media: "Bright, sharply focused citrus and orchard fruit aromas are complicated by hints of white flowers, ginger and chalky minerals. Sappy, penetrating lime zest and pear skin flavors show good depth as well as tension and pick up a hint of succulent herbs with aeration. Closes tight, minerally and quite long, featuring repeating mineral and floral notes."
Vermentino is a traditional Mediterranean varietal, known principally in Sardinia, Corsica, and Northern Italy. It is also grown in the Rhone Valley (particularly Côtes de Provence) where it is known as Rolle. The Vermentino grape produces wines that are bright, clean, and crisp, with distinctive citrus character, refreshing acidity and surprising richness. Tablas Creek's is a terrific example from Caliornia with a classic Vermentino nose of grapefruit pith, citrus leaf, key lime, fresh herbs and sea spray, but with an extra level of creaminess. The palate is zingy with flavors of lemon, nectarine, and a briny mineral note that comes out on the long, clean, bright finish. Drink now and over the next few years.
About: Tablas Creek is a pioneer of California's Rhone movement. Founded in 1989, it is the culmination of a friendship between two of hte international wine community's leading families dating back to to 1967: the Perrin family of Chateau de Beaucastel and the Haas family of Vineyard Brands. After a four-year search, the partners chose Paso Robles, California, for its many similarities to the southern Rhone, and began the lengthy process of importing vine cuttings, building a grapevine nursery, and creating an estate vineyard from scratch.
