2021 JUAN GIL "SILVER LABEL" MONASTRELL JUMILLA

2021 JUAN GIL “SILVER LABEL” MONASTRELL JUMILLA, SPAIN. (100% Monastrell / Mourvedre).

Wine Spectator: ”Bodegas Juan Gil has become a Spanish wine powerhouse under the guidance of the family's fourth generation."

Bodegas Juan Gil, the Spanish estate behind cult collectibles "Clio" and "El Nido", also produce a range of terrific wines offering the house's signature richness and complexity at everyday drinking prices. Composed of 100% Monastrell (a.k.a. Mourvedre) from very old, dry-farmed vines planted to the region's famously chalk and limestone soils, the "Silver Label" red is no exception. This drinks like a much more expensive wine, with explosive aromas of currant, cassis and boysenberry accented by smoky spice. Almost opaque purple in color, it was aged in French oak for 12 months, lending extra depth and complexity to the grape's characteristic ripe, dark fruit. The palate is smooth as silk, with a finish lingering of vanilla and toast.

So delicious on its own, this makes a natural partner to grilled meats and is a go-to for charcuterie and cheese. Its richness and complexity also make it fun to pair with Korean, Chinese and Indian fare.

About: Based in Jumilla with winemaking roots going back over a century, Gil Family Estates comprises eight wineries spread throughout seven D.O.'s in Spain and are famous around the world for bold flavors, lavish texture and alluring spice.
