2018 HAYFORK "LEWELLING RANCH" ST. HELENA CABERNET SAUVIGNON, NAPA VALLEY, CALIFORNIA.
95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A blend of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon and 11% Petit Verdot, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Field Select was aged for 20 months in oak, 90% new. Deep garnet-purple colored, it charges out of the gate with exuberant notes of baked black plums, Black Forest cake and mulberries plus suggestions of fragrant earth, Provence herbs and tree bark. The palate has a firm backbone of grainy tannins and lively acidity framing the full-bodied, muscular black fruit, finishing long with a lifted perfume. 100 cases were made."
From the Winemaker: "The 2018 Hayfork Field Select is our more opulent cabernet made with 11% of the ever-pretty Lewelling Ranch Petit Verdot and our very favorite block of Clone 6 Cabernet. Its velvety frame is enlivened with plenty of floral character, black currants, graphite, cedar and a notable finish. This wine embodies our every effort to make beautiful wine.
We farm the Lewelling Ranch with sustainability in mind, as we feel we are stewards of the land that my family has been tending since 1864. I am among the 6th generation on the ranch and collectively our family goal is to ensure the longevity of the land and continue our agricultural legacy in the Napa Valley. We have a vineyard management company as well our wine projects, Wight Vineyard Management, which farms our 90 acres plus about 600 acres up and down the valley for other folks. We are proud to be one of the longest continually farming families in Napa County."

Our farming heritage runs deep, as my great-great-great-grandfather, John Lewelling, a horticulturist by trade, settled the St. Helena family ranch in 1864. Whether growing walnuts, prunes, pears or grapes, we have been continuously farming our land for six generations.
We are blessed with a fine cabernet soil and microclimate, which produce a grape with great concentration and poise. It is our belief that less is more when it comes to winemaking, and we strive to allow our wines to evolve naturally, with the least amount of manipulation possible.
