2016 DAOU PASO ROBLES CABERNET SAUVIGNON
Aged 10 months in 60% new French oak. Blackberry, cassis, plum and currant aromas greet the nose, surrounded by black olives, anise, leather and cigar box. Notes of graphite and crushed stone mingle with just a hint of cool mint. Robust and full bodied, an undercurrent of restrained power is palpable just below the surface at the core of this wine. Firm, fine grained tannins provide ample backbone for the layers of boysenberry, black cherry, licorice and dried herb flavors. Meaty and fleshy while retaining an overall elegance, it finishes with authority and finesse.
91-92 points Vinous Media: "Bright violet color. Ripe dark berry and floral aromas pick up subtle tobacco and pungent floral and herb nuances as the wine stretches out. Juicy and focused on the palate, offering appealingly sweet blackberry and bitter cherry flavors that put on weight on the back half. Youthfully tannic on the sharply focused, persistent finish, which features lingering suggestions of candied rose and mocha." (JR, 11/2017)
91 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Just bottled, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon is another outstanding wine. Black currants, licorice, charcoal and lead pencil notes all flow to a full-bodied, silky, polished and elegant Cabernet that's a delicious drink. Like the 2015, it was aged 11 months in 60% new French oak." (08/2017)
