The August 2021 Explorer and Premier Clubs take us to the hills of the Mediterranean in the South of France for a pair of two wines to enjoy poolside, beach-side, or wherever the last days of summer take you.

Featured Premier Club Wines:

2020 VANNIERES BANDOL ROSE, PROVENCE, FRANCE

Located in the esteemed Provencal region of Bandol, France, Chateau Vannieres brings five centuries of farming tradition and a legacy of great winemaking, adapting inherited techniques from Burgundy to the unique terroir and microclimate of Bandol. Chateau Vannieres' vineyards feature clay and limestone soils and are surrounded by olive trees, cypress and stone pines. This classic rose is composed primarily of Mourvèdre (70%), a Bandol signature, giving the wine rich fruit and structure for an elegant, dry rose that rivals the best of France.

2019 SULAUZE "CHAPPELLE LAIQUE" COTEAUX D'AIX-EN-PROVENCE ROUGE, FRANCE

In the heart of Provence, Karina and Guillaume Lefèvre biodynamically farm 29 hectares of traditional Provençal red and white varieties grown in a flaky limestone soil known as "Lauze" from which the winery takes its name, Domaine de Sulauze. A commitment to purity and terroir transparency guides Guillaume in the cellar where wild yeast fermentations, no to low sulfur additions, and zero fining or filtration are foundational to the winemaking process. "Chappelle Laique" is 100% Cinsault from a single parcel, planted to vine cuttings come from Domaine Abatucci in Corsica. It is fragrant with red fruits and and earth spice with a punchy core of fruit and layers of flavor. Versatile at table, this will pair with a range of foods, from cheese and picnic fare to hearty roasts and braises.
