Octoberfest Germany: Explorer Club (Oct 2021)
The October 2021 Explorer Club takes us to the sunny and dry German tourist mecca of Pfalz, just opposite Alsace in France. An area that has gained much reputation as a wine region filled with innovative producers. Now seeing much international demand. Happy Octoberfest!
Featured Wines:
2019 VILLA WOLF PFALZ PINOT GRIS
89 points Wine Enthusiast: "Grapefruit, pear and pineapple notes gain power from nose to finish in this fresh, fruity white. Dry and medium-bodied in style, it’s a thirst-quenching, delicately saline sip with an easy yet elegant appeal."
2019 VILLA WOLF PFALZ PINOT NOIR
Pinot Noir has a long tradition in the Pfalz region of Germany, where it is known as Spa¨tburgunder. The Villa Wolf Pinot Noir is warm and medium-bodied, with a firm acid structure. Its bright black-cherry fruit is juicy, ripe, and forward, with a spicy midpalate and lingering finish. A minimum of twelve months of aging in used French oak barriques gives the wine a smoky depth and a nice touch of earthy tannins. It’s an excellent, approachable red wine for everyday dining.
