How 'Bout a Trip to South-West France for Christmas?! (Dec 2021)
Featured Wines:
2019 LES EQUILIBRISTES "HIRSUTE" BERGERAC BLANC
"It is a wine that highlights Sémillon, an emblematic grape of the South West region and very little used in other appellations. It is often associated with Sauvignon for the most part in the blend to produce wines that are often good but "without surprises". We also wanted to highlight this variety with a different blend, keeping the majority Semillon and combining it with a more atypical Sauvignon macerated for several days and with a Chenin aged in barrels without topping" (Winery)
“Les Equilibristes” (the “TightropeWalkers”), François de Monval and Florent Girou, aim to shake up winemakers willing to craft different wines. By freeing them from their habits and practices, they intend to shape together a vibrant and unique wine. Their set of golden rules are the following: indigenous grape varieties, organic winemaking, indigenous yeasts, minimal sulphur rates.
2020 DAULIAC "NUCOT" CAHORS MALBEC
From 25 year old biodynamic Malbec vines. Dark red and purple in color, the Nucot offers a pleasant nose of ripe red and crushed black fruit. The palate is refined, with flavors of tart cherry and blueberry. Long and smooth on the finish, with very mild tannins coming mostly from the old oak.
The ancestors of current owners Thierry and Ghislaine Baltenwech settled in the region of Cahors in 1852. Their first vintage was released in 1877. The domaine sits atop the third terrace which in Cahors is the most prestigious with its clay-limestone soils. With their environmentally friendly work ethic, the Baltenwech's had the estate certified organic in 2013.
