2018 ST ROMEDIUS CALIFORNIA SKIN-CONTACT GRENACHE BLANC / MUSCAT BLEND (ORANGE WINE), CALIFORNIA. 75% Grenache Blanc, 25% Muscat Canelli. (Sustainable)
Sourced from organically and sustainably farmed vineyards in El Dorado and Contra Costa Counties this wine is a mix of skin contact and whole cluster pressed juice. Fermented with indigenous yeast in neutral French oak barrels with minimal intervention. Aged sur lees for 6 months. Bottled without fining or filtration. Made in a style inspired by the traditional wines of Hungary and Eastern Europe where Founder/ Winemaker Robert Pintasci grew up, this dry white blend has a layered and interesting nose with unctuous fruit and floral aromas that mingle with yeasty characters. Soft on the pallet with a sense of rich fruit. The Muscat Canelli saw 24 hours of skin contact before pressing and then fermented it to dryness in neutral oak barrels. This was blended with organically farmed, barrel fermented, Grenache Blanc grown at 2400 ft to tame the influence of the Muscat Canelli and add layers of aroma and texture. Juicy and watering through the finish, this is the perfect wine to pair with a picnic and warm weather. Caution this wine will disappear quickly if left unattended around friends!
About: St. Romedius Wine was winemaker Robert Pintasci and his wife Milli in Napa, CA. Their family is a unique mix of two very interesting cultures, Hungarian and Punjabi. This means there are more than three languages spoken in the house and the food is never boring!
Inspired by St Romedius, a 4th century Austrian nobleman associated with taming and protecting wildlife (in his case, according to legend, a bear), Robert and Milli's goal is one of stewardship and respect. Their unusual vareitals and blends are reflective of their origins, love of Italian and central European culture, and the joy of sharing wines with friends over a delicious meal.
Robert was working as assistant winemaker at Far Niente and Dolce wineries when he and Milli decided to launch their own label. Buckeye Ranch Vineyard in Lafayette was looking for someone to make wine out of their beautiful vineyard, and thus St. Romedius Wine was born! (Winery)
