2022 ANTXIOLA GETARIAKO TXAKOLINA
2022 ANTXIOLA GETARIAKO TXAKOLINA, BASQUE COUNTRY, SPAIN. 100% Hondaribbi Zuri.
All the fruit for this wine is gathered by hand from clay soils on windy, sunny slopes at about 300 feet above the Cantabrian sea. To preserve all the local terroir, fermentation is done naturally in steel tanks over several weeks with indigenous yeast. Bottled with natural effervescence. Snappy, crisp and refreshing, its a great year-round aperitif and delicious with many foods. About: Located around the small fishing towns of Getaria and Zarautz, on the coast of the Bay of Biscay in Northern Spain, the Getariako Txakolina DO was established in 1990, but the history of vine growing is a long one dating back to the Middle Ages.
Antxiola (ahn-cho-la) was founded by the Errasti family in 1989, the same year that the smallest Txakolina DO of Getaria was classified. The Errasti's have been growing the local varieties of Hondarrabi Zuri and Hondarrabi Beltza on coastal Getariako vineyards for over 40 years and they've really perfected their production over time. The pergola trained vines here are quite old (many 80+ years) with the roots reaching 10 meters below the surface. The area was not affected by Phylloxera due to the high rainfall which allowed water accumulation around roots, protecting them from the outbreak. (Importer)
