2020 CLOS DE LA BARTHASSADE "LES GRAVETTES" TERRASSE DU LARZAC
2020 LA BARTHASSADE "LES GRAVETTES" TERRASES DU LARZAC, LANGUEDOC-ROUSSILLON, FRANCE. 55% Grenache, 30% Cinsault, 15% Syrah
A Southern Rhone blend of Grenache, Cinsault and Syrah from the Terrases du Larzac region of the Languedoc-Roussillon. It was aged 15 months in demi-muids, barrels and concrete egg. Rich yet elegant, this seductive red is well-matched to many foods, including duck with orange, lamb tagine, creamy cheeses, strawberry panacotta.
About: Guillaume and Helene trained in Burgundy before settling in the Terrasses du Larzac, producing their first vintage in 2014.
They had always been impressed by the quality of the wines from this production area, so the choice of Les Terrasses du Larzac was obvious from the start. This region indeed offers a wide variety of terroirs with very high quality potential, landscapes of striking beauty and allows the production of wines of great expression, capable of bringing together freshness and indulgence, perfectly matching what they were looking for.
"Clos de la Barthassade" originates from Occitan "bartàs" which means "bush, brush" and refers to the dense wood bordering our plots in Montpeyroux.
The freshness found in their wines is a representation of their unique terroir. The presence of cool nights and the influence of Tramontana during the vine's vegetative cycle slow down the ripening of the grapes. The quality of the wine is felt, more balanced, marked by an acidity synonymous with freshness when tasted, but also by an additional elegance allowed by a higher quality of tannins.
Their plots consist of 9.5 ha of Syrah, black Grenache, Cinsault, Mourvèdre and Chenin Blanc. Distributed in four islets in the municipalities of Montpeyroux, Jonquières and Saint-Saturnin, these vines are aged 30 to 40 years and all the plots are classified as AOC Terrasses du Larzac. (Winery)
