2017 AMEZTOI "STIMATUM" GETARIAKO TXAKOLINA TINTO
Thanks to DNA research, we know know that the red Basque varietal Hondarribi Beltza is in fact Cabernet Franc. From this terrific producer in the heart of Spanish Basque country, this youthful, vibrant, wild red is pure joy to drink. It comes from vines planted from 1918 to 2008 in limestone soils, sustainably farmed. Fermented with indigenous yeast in stainless steel with skin contact for 20 days, and bottled with residual carbonation. Redcurrant and cherry scents are complemented by lovely floral notes and a hint of white pepper and orange peel. With air, riper fruit flavors and sweet spice come forward. It's a red wine you can enjoy with just about anything, from fish and shellfish to pork, game, sausage and spicy fare - but is especially good with young cheeses.
About: Ameztoi is one of the top producers of Getariako Txakolina. They own 20 hectares of vines in the best location. From the vineyards one can see the town of St. Sebastian and understand the influence of the Atlantic Ocean on local viticulture. Ignacio Ameztoi constitutes the seventh generation to carry on the tradition of making txakolina in the province of Getaria. Made from the indigenous grape varieties of hondarribi zuri and its red companion hondarribi beltza.
