2018 GRIMM'S BLUFF HAPPY CANYON SAUVIGNON BLANC, SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA. 100% Sauvignon Blanc. (Biodynamic)

The Musqué clone lends beautiful floral highlights to this Biodynamically farmed Sauvignon Blanc. Aged in stainless steel to preserve freshness, this is shows classic aromas of gooseberry, green apple and lime, a palate-coating texture and distinctive wet river stone minerality that lingers in the finish. Try it with: Goat’s cheese, risotto with asparagus or green peas, halibut with beurre blanc.

Antonio Galloni: "Grimm planted his ranch in Happy Canyon just a few years ago, but in just that short time this site has proven to be incredibly well suited to Sauvignon Blanc. The vineyard is planted with a high percentage of the Musqué clone, which gives the wines much of their distinctive signatures. Farming is done following organic and biodynamic practices, while the wines are aged in a combination of stainless steel, neutral oak and cement. Stylistically, the wines have a phenolic feel and intensity that is incredibly distinctive." (08/2015)

About: Rick and Aurora Grimm purchased 135 acres on Kentucky Road in the Santa Ynez Valley in 2010. With their appreciation of European wines and food in mind, a year later, they bought an adjoining 108 acre parcel and decided to try their hand at farming on the mesas of the 1st parcel. While initially dedicating a “couple of acres” to wine grapes and a “couple of acres” to olives, after several consultations with Jeff Newton and Ben Merz of Coastal Vineyard Care, the project almost immediately grew to 16.6 acres of grapes and five acres of Italian varietal olives.

Grimm’s Bluff Vineyard sits 300 feet above the Santa Ynez River at an altitude of 850 feet above sea level. The 16.5 acres of vineyard is part of a 246 acre ranch at the South East corner of the Happy Canyon AVA. The estate is planted 65% with 5 clones of Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% with 2 clones of Sauvignon Blanc and a tiny bit of Petit Verdot. Biodynamic and organic methodology has been practice from inception. No herbicides, pesticides or artificial fertilizers have been used in the vineyard. Paul Lato has been the consulting winemaker since inception. (Winery)
