2018 ERIC KENT "CUVEE RENEE" SONOMA COUNTY SAUVIGNON BLANC
2018 ERIC KENT "CUVEE RENEE" SONOMA COUNTY SAUVIGNON BLANC, CALIFORNIA. 100% Sauvignon Blanc.
A perennial favorite here at Mission Wines, the latest vintage of Eric Kent "Cuvee Renee" is in stock and better than ever. With a small amount of reserve wine from the last vintage (3%) and the addition of some Musque clone from a new block, this vintage displays heightened exotic aromatics, creamy texture, and a subtle nuttiness that is suggestive of the great whites of Bordeaux. A deeply satisfying and versatile white to enjoy on its own or with a variety of foods, from white meats and fish to Asian and other spicier cuisine.
Self-described "wine geek" Kent Humphrey began making wine on his own the early 2000s and officially launched his own winery, Eric Kent, after apprenticing with mentors Bruce Devlin (Ballentine Vineyards, Three Clicks Wines), Bill Hunter (Chasseur), and Mike Officer and Jay Maddox (Carlisle). Since the begining, his wines have distinguished themselves for their easy-drinking charm and by bearing local artists' work on their labels. Together with his wife, Colleen, and his sister Renee (for whom this wine is named) they continue to evolve as a winemaking team with an ever-expanding loyal following and increasingly refined wines.
Winemaker's Notes: "The 2016 is everything you’d expect from EK Sauvignon Blanc and then some: loads of exotic fruit aromatics and a palate presence that is not often found in many examples of the grape. Part of this texture comes from a roughly 3% addition of the previous vintage held lovingly in neutral barrels for a year to add further layering and complexity. Now with a new block of Fallenleaf Vineyard planted over to the Musqué clone at our request, we’re getting deeper, more tropical and melony aromas and flavors than ever before. Yet at the same time, we’ve fine-tuned the wine to express a bit more precision and pedigree." (Winery)
91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Nutty and lush with layers of peach, pear and lime fruit, this is a medium-bodied and well-balanced white. It's refreshing while offering both length and breadth on the palate. (2015 vintage, VB, 04/2017)
90 points Wine Spectator: "Vivid and intense, with honeysuckle, peach and citrus flavors that are bright and juicy, showing a hint of lemon verbena on the long, juicy, supple finish." (2015 vintage, 11/2016)
