2016 ANCIENT PEAKS PASO ROBLES CHARDONNAY

2016 ANCIENT PEAKS PASO ROBLES CHARDONNAY, CALIFORNIA. 98% Chardonnay, 2% Viognier.

Sourced entirely from Ancient Peaks' estate Margarita Vineyard in the cool-climate southern tip of Paso Robles, only a few miles from the Ocean, this fermented in stainless steel tanks in order to preserve the delicate fruit aromatics and natural acidity. Aging took place in a combination of stainless steel and French oak barrels (20%) with the oak-aged lot undergoing secondary fermentation to lend roundness and creaminess to balance the wine's crisp profile. A tiny amount of estate Viognier was added to round it out, softening texture and adding aromatic complexity. The result is a well-rounded Chardonnay with bright tropical fruit aromas with accents of butterscotch, vanilla and spice. Green apple and citrus add zip to the mineral-tinged finish. Recommended with scallops, risotto, seafood pasta and grilled chicken. Top Value!

Fleshy but lively on the palate, offering plump pineapple and orchard fruit flavors and a touch of bitterness on the back half.
