2016 RAVENTOS I BLANC "DE NIT" CAVA ROSE CONCA DEL RIO ANOIA, PENEDES, SPAIN. 37% Macabeo, 37% Xarello, 18% Parellada, 7% Monastrell. (Biodynamic)

This elegant, dry sparkling rose from the historic Raventos estate was made in the traditional method, with vinification in stainless steel tanks followed by blending and secondary fermentation in the bottle. The white varieties for De Nit come from estate plots with deep calcareous soils with a sand-rich loamy texture giving freshness and elegance. The Monastrell from lower terraces provides the pale pink color. This was aged for a minimum of 18 months with very low dosage (extra brut) to yeild a clean sparkler with light citrus, red flowers, white fruit, and a touch of cassis. A delicate mousse with a fine bead leaves a lasting impression. Very refined. Wine Advocate: "The pale pink 2014 De Nit is a blend of 37% each Macabeo and Xarello with 18% Parellada and some 7% of red Monastrell, from the west-facing part of the El Serral vineyard that adds color without losing freshness. There is no maceration, so the color is subtle, and so is the nose, following the path of the Blanc de Blancs; the basic blend is quite similar and from more or less the same origin. 2014 was a warmish and low yielding year, but the wine is surprisingly fresh with some peach flavors in the finish. The profile is very much the definition of the house style: clean, precise and balanced. A tasty Rosé. It was disgorged after no less than 18 months sur lie." (10/2016)

About: The Raventós i Blanc estate, which is comprised on 90 hectares of woodlands and vineyards, was founded in 1497 and has been passed on through the family to the present day. It was a member of the Raventós family, Josep Raventós Fatjó, who made the first Cava in 1872. In 1984, on the family estate, Josep-Maria Raventós I Blanc founded the winery as we know it today with a singular focus on achieving the highest quality wines. Today, the father and son team of Manuel and Pepe Raventós (Josep-Maria’s son and grandson) work side by side, continuing the prestigious lineage of this remarkable estate.

In December 2012, Raventós i Blanc took an important step in its evolution, leaving the Cava DO and creating a new designation, Conca del Riu Anoia. This small geographical area conveys strict viticultural traditions, the strength of the land, the unique, indigenous grape varieties and the characteristics of the soils. (Importer)
