2015 COTO DE HAYAS "GARNACHA CENTENARIA" CAMPO DE BORJA
This wine is made of very old (100+ year old) vines planted to the slate and red soils of Monte Alto and La Sarda in Campo de Borja, on the slopes of the Iberian Mountain range close to its highest peak, El Moncayo. These old vines have naturally low yields for incredible concentrated fruit. Hand-harvested and aged for four months in French oak, this shows ripe plum, cassis and blackberry with well-integrated oak and exotic spice accents. Delicious on its own or with many foods, especially barbecue. Top Value!
90 point Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Coto de Hayas Garnacha Centenaria is a juicy, chewy and not oaky red produced with the grapes from old, head-pruned vineyards in the zones of Monte Alto and La Sarda on slate and red soils. It fermented with selected yeasts and matured in French oak barrels for four months. This is the freshest of the wines I tasted, with more fruit in the foreground, better-integrated oak and ultimately is the more drinkable wine. This is nicely balanced, and an improvement over previous vintages. It's not a super-complex wine, but highly drinkable." (06/2017)
Wine Spectator: "This luscious red is rich and alluring, with rich raspberry ganache and vanilla flavors that impart a sweet character, supported by lively citrusy acidity that keeps this balanced. A bold, fruity style. Drink now through 2020." (11/2017)
