2015 CUNE GRAN RESERVA RIOJA, SPAIN. 100% Tempranillo Cune Gran Reserva is based on Tempranillo with small amounts of Graciano and Mazuelo, all hand-selected grapes from their vineyards in Rioja Alta. The color and structure is obtained after alcoholic fermentation maceration. The malolactic fermentation gives the wine suitable for mature aged in American and French oaks. Per Rioja tradition, the Gran Reserva ages at length in barrel and bottle until the time of going to market. Ready to drink but with many more years of pleasure to give, this displays aromas and flavors of black fruit and licorice melding with notes vanilla, toffee, and tobacco from the barrel aging. On the palate, the texture is smooth and silky with lingering flavor of balsamic and fruity notes. Complex and food-friendly.

About: CVNE, Compañía Vinícola del Norte del España (the Northern Spanish Wine Company), was founded in 1879 in the town of Haro in Rioja. CVNE was founded by two brothers and today is still controlled by the direct descendants of the founding family. Since its inception, CVNE has been focused on the production and aging of wines and now comprises of four wineries: CVNE, Imperial, Vina Real and Contino. The 545 hectares of vineyards that CVNE owns account for 50% of the company's production, and are distributed between the two subregions of Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa, an area of calcareous clay soils, ferrous clay and alluvial soils, under the influence of the Atlantic and Mediterranean climates. The winery is composed of 22 buildings, which include the original 1879 premises, as well as the plant designed and built by the Eiffel architectural studio in 1909. This winery combines tradition, quality and innovation. In 1940 it was pioneer with the construction of the first concrete fermentation cellar in Spain.
