2015 EDMUND JACQUIN MONDEUSE

2015 EDMUND JACQUIN MONDEUSE, SAVOIE-JURA, FRANCE. 100% Mondeuse.

Edmund Jacquin is a small domaine run by father and son in the Savoie (Savoy) region of Eastern France. They farm by hand and make wines with as little intervention as possible to honor the long tradition of vitifulture and winemaking in the region. Featuring lakes and mountains, the Savoie is an alpine region with vineyards planted on steep rocky hillsides. Mondeuse Noire is a red wine grape indigenous to this region. It is known for charming red fruit aromas and flavors and spicy undertones. At Edmund Jacquin all the grapes are carefully selected and harvested by hand. Traditional vinification results a vibrant expression of red cherry fruit with, floral and earthy notes. Fine tannins and crisp acidity make it a natural complement to game meats and rich Alpine cheese like Tomme de Savoie and Reblochon.

According to importer Charles Neal, Mondeuse is that rare grape which even in very hot years like 2003, retains its high acidity and low alcohol, making for wines that reach 12% or 12.5% maximum alcohol. (Importer)
