2017 OTT "AM BERG" GRUNER VELTLINER WAGRAM
Bernhard Ott is famous in Austria, where he is known as "Mr. Veltliner". Now cerftified Biodynamic, his wines are better than ever, a testament to the health and biodiversity of his vineyards. "Am Berg" is composed of grapes from various sites on the "Berg" (the terraced vines above Feuresbrunn) with loess-based soils. This delicious Gruner is fresh, crisp, and well-defined, with classic Gruner aromas and flavors of green apple, stone fruits, and white pepper, with a snappy, mineral-driven finish. It is a sophisticated wine that is ready to drink and will pair beautifully with a variety of foods.
About:The Ott family has been growing and producing wine in the region of Wagram in Lower Austria since 1889. Bernhard Ott is of the fourth generation and has managed the winery since 1993, when he took the helm from his father. When he came home to the winery as a 21 year old, he was interested in producing wines of the highest quality. Bernhard wanted to prove that elegant and long lived wines could be produced from Grüner Veltliner grown on loess soil, specifically from Rosenberg vineyard. Bernhard replaced the old wooden casks with stainless steel and began working the vineyards with an aim for the highest high quality. Bernhard is now fully biodynamic, and it really shows in the vineyards. He has life bursting among his vines, the soil is not compacted, and he sows multiple flowers and grasses in his rows to compete for water, aerate the soil, and return nitrogen back when he tills it under.
