About: The estate is all in the Cortese di Gavi DOCG in the village of Belvedere Tassarolo, right on the border with Liguria. The vineyards have very clayey soil, it’s very red, and in some parts very mineral. The minerality comes through clearly in the wines. This minerality in the juice has inspired Stefania’s low impact winemaking, and much care not to damage fruit in the vineyard.
“I harvest them (the grapes) when they are ripe and the bunch is very complete. This gives me the possibility of daring to make wine without sulphites. But this is ‘cause of the grapes, not ‘cause of me.”
Around Gavi there are other farmers working organically or biodynamically, but Stefania believes the in the exceptional qualities of her fruit above all others. That’s why she considers organics an after-thought. She wants people to think of her wine as good first, and that organic farming practices should be an added bonus. (Importer)
