2015 MUCYN "LES CARATS" SAINT-JOSEPH BLANC, RHONE VALLEY, FRANCE. 100% Roussanne.

Hélène and Jean-Pierre Mucyn are a young couple who have been established in Crozes and St. Joseph since 2001, making sophisticated yet stylish wines. Saint-Joseph is a French wine region in the northern Rhône where white wines are quite rare. "Les Carats" is composed of 100% Roussanne, from young vines plated on the south-facing granite slopes in the heart of the Saint-Joseph appellation. The soil is made up of schist and gneiss. All the fruit is hand-harvested and the wine fermented and aged in a combination of barrel and large vats. It is then aged nine months on the lees with regular lees stirring. The result is a fragrant, textured white with aromas and flavors of jasmine, honey, almond and stone fruits. The palate is at once layered and fresh. Enjoy as an aperitif, accompanied by Ardeche cheeses as well as fish, chicken, or even pasta with truffles. Gorgeous and ageworthy.
