2016 LAURENT GAUTHIER MORGON "COTE DU PY- VIEILLES VIGNES"
About The Gauthier family owns the best plot and exposure on the famed Cote de Py hill of Morgon. Born on the Cote, Laurent Gauthier cultivates his Gamay vines on 2 ha of east-facing alluvial schist soils. The wine ferments in oak vats then goes in to large old foudre to age. Powerful and structured, this wine drinks well now with food but is really built to age. Decant to allow the fruit to really shine. Recommended with cassoulet, duck confit, games, lamb, rabbit, and steak Wine Advocate: "...ripe, licorice-tinged dark cherry and raspberry coulis scents on the nose that opens nicely in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy red cherry and strawberry fruit, a pinch of spice and a structured if slightly truncated finish. Hopefully it will develop more persistence in bottle, so afford it a couple of years." (2015 vintage, 08/2016)
