2015 CAMPO VERDE "FERROCINTO" POLLINO MAGLIOCCO CALABRIA

2015 CAMPO VERDE "FERROCINTO" POLLINO MAGLIOCCO CALABRIA, ITALY. 100% Magliolocco. (Organic)

Magliocco is a rare grape vareity, indigenous to Calabria that is a late-ripening varietal with high tannin levels due to the thick skins of its berries. It thrives in the Calabrian region, where hot days and cool nights allow it to ripen to perfection over a long warm growing season. The first mention of a "Magliocca" grape dates to the late 15th century when it was documented growing in the Calabria region. It was organically farmed, harvested by hand, and aged for six months in French oak. The Ferrocinto villa was constructed in 1847 on top of the hill overlooking the village of Castrovillari, a town and comune in the province of Cosenza in the Calabria region of southern Italy at the foot of Mount Pollino. They have been producing wines since the 1850s.

Wine Enthusiast: "Made entirely with Magliocco, a native grape from Calabria, this has aromas of black currant and Mediterranean herb. The straightforward palate delivers prune, cinnamon and tobacco alongside dusty tannins. Enjoy through 2019." (06/2017)
