2014 SEABOLD MONTEREY PINOT NOIR, CALIFORNIA. 100% Pinot Noir.
Master Sommelier Chris Miller is the force behind Seabold Wines. Inspired by the rugged cold climate of Monterey, Seabold Pinot Noir comes from two distinct sites in Monterey: a vineyard in Carmel Valley and the foothills of the Santa Lucia Highlands. The site in Carmel Valley is very cold, windswept vineyard with vines planted to loamy topsoils over an ancient seabed, located six miles from the ocean and 1000 feet in elevation. Fruit from this site contributes the energy and acid backbone to to the wine. This is balanced out by the ripe, concentrated fruit from the old vine parcel at the foothills of the Santa Lucia Highlands that completes the wine. This is cold climate California Pinot at its best: lithe, elegent and seamless with layers depth and lots of finesse.
Winemaker's Notes:: "The nose leads with fresh-pressed blueberries and nori, aeration bringing heliotrope and Chinese five-spice to the fore. The palate opens to ripe black raspberries, orris root and sel gris, with a straight-from-the-oven black cherry shortbread finish." (Winery)
