2014 TOUR PEYRONNEAU SAINT-EMILION GRAND CRU
89-92 points Vinous Media: "A juicy, explosive wine, the 2014 Tour Peyronneau shows terrific depth and intensity throughout. The flavors are bold, inky and intense to the core, with generous mocha, red plum and spice overtones. Intensely perfumed, racy and supple, the 2014 is likely to drink beautifully with minimal cellaring." (04/2015)
About: A short 5 minute drive from the town of Saint-Émilion, Bordeaux will take you through some of the most beautiful vineyard land in France. It is here, amongst the rolling hillsides capped by limestone plateaus, that merlot reaches its apogee of refinement and expression. Enter Château Bernateau, a small domaine which has been family owned and operated for the past eight generations, and most recently by Regis & Jacqueline Lavau and their family. Today, Château Bernateau, along with its sister domaine Château Tour Peyronneau, are managed by Regis & Jacqueline’s son and trained oenologist, Pierrick Lavau. Under Pierrick's direction, both domaines are farmed organically and classified Saint-Émilion Grand Cru status. The 12 hectares of vineyards of Château Tour Peyronneau sit on hillsides composed mainly of clay, sand and gravel in the communes of Saint-Sulpice de Faleyrens and Libourne. The 7 hectares of vineyards of Château Bernateau are grown on clay & limestone plateaus of Saint-Etienne-de- Lisse. Both wines bring uniquely different elements to the table. The more gravelly soils of Château Tour Peyronneau provide silky/mineral notes, often redolent of warm stone and floral nuance, while clay-limestone vineyards of Château Bernateau provide more amplitude, richness and structure.
