2013 BERTHOUMIEU "CUVEE CHARLES DE BATZ" MADIRAN

2013 BERTHOUMIEU "CUVEE CHARLES DE BATZ" MADIRAN, SOUTHWEST FRANCE, FRANCE. 90% Tannat and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon.

Domaine Berthoumieu is owned by Didier Barré, who took over for his father Louis in the mid-1980s. His top cuvee, this come from vines that are at least 50 years old planted to clay and rocky limestone soils. Hand-harvested, the Tannat and Cab ferment separately in tank followed by aging 60% in oak for a year prior to blending and bottling. Tannat is famous for its deep color and strong tannins, and this is not exception. It shows ripe black and red fruit with cedary oak, which is very well-integrated. Firm tannins on the finish make this is perfect match for richly flavored meats like steak, lamb, duck, goose or game. Classic Madiran.
